The gentle, surreal humour of Sick of Love is performed with the full presence of the animator-performers in view. Set on a large “double bed”, the audience sit around this in an intimate proximity to the action. Everything is conveyed through the manipulation of clothing and objects in a constant relationship with live flesh, muscle and bone, an experiment with the spectator’s attention, and with the close-up as a live performative possibility. Focusing attention on the inherent eroticism of certain objects and clothing and the emotional patina and history that certain materials can evoke by their very presence, the performance deliberately confuses the senses and mingles the human with the inanimate.

Sick of Love launched the Athletes Laboratory – a research project based in the Pinter Centre for Performance and Creative Writing.
