X S T R E E T
'X Street’ is a project that examines the community dynamics in an area surrounded by accelerated external changes: Hackney Wick, London.
The piece incorporates studies of collective memory, domestic habits, interviews and archives alongside scripted dramaturgical elements.
The hour long site specific piece occurs via a minibus that traverses the area with fifteen audience members for each performance.
During the performance the audience, wearing wireless headphones at all times, are immersed in a constant interchange of soundscapes and sound design, as they access the aural perspectives and thought processes in real time of the actors outside the van. The perfectly synchronised story unfolds all around them; inside houses, shops, cars, out on the streets and even inside the van itself.
X Street was created in collaboration with the Performance Art collective Réaltympanica.
The piece will feature in the forthcoming London Festival of Architecture 2010 and was granted the 2010 Attic Arts award by the ICR.
